Obsession: Australian Couture

I've recently discovered three Australian brands that I'm currently obsessed with - C/MEO Collective, Finders Keepers, and Keepsake.  They are all affordable haute couture brands that showcase timeless designs for every occasion in breathtaking patterns.  All three brands currently have an exclusive collection with Urban Outfitters which can be found online here.  For those residing in the U.S., you can find these brands at any high end department store, Nasty Gal, Revolve, Shopbop, and Fashion Bunker.  Here are some of my favorite pieces from each brand.  Enjoy!

Keepsake - $240 (pantsuit)

C/MEO Collective - $189 on sale for $151 (dress)

C/MEO Collective - $160 (shorts)

Finders Keepers - $135 (dress)

How to Be: HAPPY

I'll be the first one to admit that I'm not by any means an optimist or a naturally cheerful person, but I can honestly say that I am happy and I have learned how to be happy.  Like any of you, I have endured my fair share of rough times and I even went through a pretty dark phase, but we won't get into that.  The point is is that the dark clouds that surround you now will clear up if you let them.  I have five steps that I'd like to share with you to help get you on the right path to be happy.  These are what worked for me and I really hope they work for you too.

1) Talk to someone. Find a close friend, teacher, or relative who you trust and talk through your troubles.  You don't even need to ask for advice, and no I promise you that you aren't bothering them.  Simply addressing your problems out loud is the first step to solving your problems.

2) Listen to some good music. I don't think people understand the importance of this one, but listening to a good song will improve your mood! Whether you're having a bad day or your spirits are down, blast one of your favorite songs or artists.  For me, it was Lana del Rey.

3) Keep busy. Being busy is the best way to keep your mind off your problems.  For me, I worked, focused on school, went shopping (a lot), and went to the gym.  Which brings me to...

4) Be healthy. Working out, drinking lots of water, and having a balanced diet is essential to happiness.  When your body is happy, you will be happy.

5) Be you. You don't have to live up to anyone else's expectations, but your own.  It took me a long time to realize this, but I learned that I was happiest when I did things that I wanted to do.  Constantly trying to please others took an emotional toll on me because I felt like everything I did wasn't enough. I know it may be hard, but try to focus on yourself and not on others because at the end of the day, you only have yourself to look out for.

I really hope these five steps work for you in finding happiness like they did for me.  Even though you may be going through some tough times, just know that they will get better, I promise.

Netflix and Chill??

Can someone please explain to me how the phrase "Netflix and Chill" turned into code for hooking up??  No seriously, I'm genuinely curious.  I mean when I'm watching Netflix, I devote a part of my soul to binge watching my favorite shows.  When I'm drooling over Steve McGarrett's fine self hunt down criminals in Hawaii Five-0 or admiring Serena van der Woodsen's lavish lifestyle in Gossip Girl, believe me the LAST thing on my mind is wanting to hook up.  Sure I enjoy watching a few episodes with a person of the opposite sex here and there, but that's exactly what I want to do...WATCH THE EPISODES.  Please tell me I'm not the only one!  Hooking up during Netflix is pointless because then I'm forced to go back and re-watch the episode so I'm fully caught up.  I've compiled a list of my favorite shows that I've watched so far that are perfect for Netflix and Chilling to.

(In no particular order...)

1) Scandal

2) Grey's Anatomy

3) Blue Mountain State

4) Friends

5) Gossip Girl

6) Blacklist

7) Hawaii Five-0

8) One Tree Hill

9) Orange is the New Black

10) New Girl

So what are some of your favorite shows or movies to Netflix and Chill to?  Let me know by leaving a comment below!

The Comeback

Hey guys, Courtney here!  It's know it's been a while, but I'm back and ready for a comeback.  I originally created Chiffon Meets Leather with the intention of it becoming a fashion/beauty/lifestyle blog blah blah blah, but I've figured there's enough of those on the internet.  I wanted to create something that was more ME.  I do love fashion as much as the next person, but there's only so much I could do in that direction.  Who knows, I may do a few a few FBL (fashion, beauty, lifestyle) posts in the future, but I want to put my main focus on whatever I find interesting.  (I'm just gonna leave that open-ended for your interpretation...)  I also want to change up my youtube channel as well, but I'm still working out the details.  So stay tuned cause it's gonna get real interesting up in here!

What's Hot, What's Not: 2014 VMA Red Carpet Edition

The MTV VMAs is my absolute favorite award show because who doesn't love watching exceptional musical performances??  However, one of my favorite parts of the event is watching celebrities walk the red carpet.  So, I thought that I'd share what's HOT and what's NOT!

BEST LOOKS

1.   Jennifer Lopez looked absolutely stunning in this silver Charbel Zoe gown.  The cutouts really flatter her figure and the dress hugs her body in all the right places!

2.   Queen Bey looks flawless as always, but this black Nicolas Jebran ensemble is my favorite on her.  I love the detail of the geometric lace panels paired with the chunky earrings.

3.   Iggy flaunted her curves in this Versace gown.  The cutouts are so delicate  and the sparkle detail is glamorous without being too overwhelming.

4.   Who said cheetah was out of style??  I'm honestly a little surprised that Nicki didn't wear something crazy like she has in the past, but I absolutely love how the cut of this dress flatters her curves AND neutral colors really suit her well.

5.   Gwen's L.A.M.B Couture hot pink bustier top and pants with black trim fit her petite frame perfectly.  Her outfit is both fun and sophisticated.

TOP 3 FLOPS

1.   Ariana Grande's all black leather Moschino ensemble was NOT HOT, but she must've been really hot (temperature wise).  This strapless dress is so tacky when paired with thigh-high boots.  This is the worst look of the night!!

2.   There are so many things wrong with Taylor Swift's Mary Katrantzou romper.  First of all, the letter pattern is juvenile.  Secondly, the fit of this romper is too tight and short in my opinion.  And lastly, I detest the long sleeves.  She looks like she's ready to go to a gymnastics competition rather than attend the VMA's!!

3.   Julianne Hough's Pucci dress is very unflattering for her figure.  The ruching is overwhelming and the micro cutouts were placed in all the wrong places.

What was your favorite look of the VMA's?? Let me know by leaving a comment below!!

Top 10 Reasons Why I Love Fall

Well, it's not quite fall yet, but now that the PSL (pumpkin spice latte) is back at Starbucks and school is starting up, it's pretty much fall in my mind.  I can go on and on about why fall is my favorite season, but I've managed to narrow it down to 10 reasons.

1.  The infamous PSL: Do I even need to explain?? It's my favorite drink hands down!

2.  Sweater weather: Sweaters are probably the most comfortable article of clothing you could wear.  Worried about that post-dinner food baby?  Don't fret!  Throw on a loose sweater to hide your food pregnancy!

3.  Shoes: Boots and moccasins galore!  Need I mention more?

4.  Colors: I love wearing darker colors for fall like black, burgundy, emerald, and navy.  These are also some of my favorite colors in general :)

5.  Thanksgiving: Who doesn't love Thanksgiving? This is my favorite holiday of the year because of the food, ambiance, and family.  Some of my fondest memories are on Thanksgiving!

6.  Black Friday: For those of you who don't know what Black Friday is, it's the day after Thanksgiving where all of the stores have blowout sales.  For shopaholics like me, this is one of the best times to splurge on gifts for family, friends, and obviously yourself!

7.  Halloween: You're never too old to dress up and stuff your face with candy!!  Also, some of the best parties are held on this day.

8.  Scents:  Autumnal scents like cinnamon, nutmeg, pine, and the smell of fresh air are some of my favorite.

9.  Temperature:  Not too hot, not too cold, but cool enough to wear sweaters!

10.  Ambiance:  Just thinking about fall gives me the warm and fuzzies.  Not to mention, the best music comes out in the fall time like Royals by Lorde and Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus.

What do you guys love about fall? Leave a comment below telling me some of your favorites things about this beautiful season!!
